This morning we quickly had a breakfast and then we headed into the direction of the volcano Arenal. This was about 15 minutes to half an hour driving and it was also a race against the time, because in the early morning the top of the volcano is still visible. During the day the clouds climb up against the volcano and so the top of the volcano will be shrouded in the clouds. It was close, but we were just in time, it took only 10 minutes before the park opens up. Once inside it was a short while driving to the parking place and after that a long hike through a dense but passable jungle.
After a fine night's rest it was time to get up, altough I overslept with 20 minutes (I didn't hear the alarm go off...). Quickly doing the morning ritual. After that I still had some time left, so I packed up my suitcase and... exactly on time ready for breakfast! Putting my shoes on and exit the door. Let's have a quick look at the waterstream in the 'backyard', I see a lizard! I Quickly made a photo of the lizard. Now it's really time for breakfast. After breakfast we loaded our luggage in the car and off we go, on to the next! I was supposed to get up when my alarm goes of at 6:30 AM, but I was already awake at 4 AM so at 6 AM I got out of bed. So I went to the reception to go online (the wifi only works here)... I exited my bungalow and took a look at the water stream in my 'backyard', right away a saw a crab standing in front of it's hole. After looking some more at the water stream I saw something swimming in the water, at first I thought it was a caiman. But when I took a better look at it, it turned out to be a turtle (check!)... Unfortunately I didn't had my camera with me, so I rushed inside to get my camera and when I got back I wanted to take a picture of it... it's gone! So I deciced to wait a bit, maybe I will see it again? It takes it's time... After a while I saw some movement, not in the water but up in the tree... a squirrel! Unfortunately this one was too fast for me to take a picture of it, but later on I have more luck on my side (more about that later on). Now just waiting a little bit longer, maybe I will catch some more wildlife, until the 'return of the turtle' just happens in front of my eyes. Yes, now I could make a picture! As I had described yesterday we left today by boat and bus from Tortuguero back to the restaurant with the butterfly garden. After swapping the boat for the bus we left with a good spirit, but after only 15 minutes driving we suddenly stopped. It turned out that there was a small accident in front of us with other busses. There was not much damage, but I don't what exactly happened and if there were any injured people and if so how much. But we were stuck here for at least half an hour, but finally we could continue our way. Yesterday, while writing the post the weather started to haunt. Because the rain came pouring from the sky and there was a lightning storm. That's not nice when you're exhausted and the alarm clock rings at 4:15 AM, because today we had an excursion (in two stages) on the program. We went by boat to one of the siderivers to spot some wildlife along the shore but also high up in the trees and in the sky. Buenos dias! Today is our first full day in Costa Rica. The day started really early (and hectical), we should have been picked up at 6:20 AM at the hotel and the breakfast started at 6:00 AM... short amount of time for a quick breakfast! Well, forget it... we served some food on our plate and just wanted to take a seat at a table but then our tourguide had arrived, 15 minutes too early! So quickly putting the spread on the sandwich and drink (in a plastic cup) in one hand and the luggage in the other hand, that's how we walked to the touringcar! Now we're heading towards the Eastern part of the country (the Caribbean part), but first we picked up some other people at other hotels in San José. We arrived safely in Costa Rica. It was only an hour flying from Panama (It went by before I knew it). Once we exited the airport, our driver picked us up and brought us to the hotel (At the end of our vacation he will bring us to the airport as well). This was an hour driving (normally half of the time, but because Costa Rica had to play against Panama it was rush hour on the road). After 20 hours of travelling (starting from Amsterdam) we finally arrived at the hotelroom... completely exhausted! 😪 Tomorrow at 6 AM we have to be present again, that's 20 minutes before we get picked up! At the moment of writing this it's 20:45 PM, so I'm going to bed early! Adiós hasta Mañana! |
