After a very comfortable night (I had some headache), we continued into the direction of Udaipur (about 3 hours driving). On our way there we stopped over at some temples. These looked amazing. Only at the first temple it wasn't allowed to take photos or to film. This was a pity. But 5 minutes driving ahead there was another temple, this one is pretty abbandoned and here I took some photos. The walls of the temples looks beautiful and it contains nice details carved in it. Closeby there are some lotus flowers. These are the only fields in whole of Rajasthan with lotus flowers! After that we drove to a restaurant to have some lunch. Finally we drove to our hotel. The rest of the day we're off and here is a swimming pool as well. So you can take 3 guesses what I'm going to do... 😉. By the way we will be spending 2 nights in this hotel (that actually looks like a complete village). The hotel is located far outside the city. Tomorrow we will be exploring the city of Udaipur. Stay tuned for a next update, see you then! 🙂 This morning I woke up like an Arabian king (something different than a maharaja for a change), because of the call to prayer from the mosque. But the day started at a textile shop, where we bought some things. Next we continued our way to Pushkar (3 hours driving) to visit a Hindu temple. This temple is to honor an important person, which is also the only temple to honor this person. Which makes it a unique temple in the world. At walking distance of the temple there's a lake that is sacred to buddhists. The story goes that that Buddha dropped a lotus flower on this location and a miracle happened. The miracle includes that the lake arised on that location. After seeing this (recording devices weren't allowed, so I couldn't take photos unfortunately) we continued driving to Deogarh (still 2 hours driving). This is where our hotel is located. Naturally another mahal from a maharaja! My hotelroom consists of a big salon, a bedroom and a bathroom! At this hotel there's also a swimming pool, so once again I took a refreshing dive after a day full of sweating and sitting in the car. Finally we had a nice meal and for now a dance show to watch! 🙂 Tomorrow we continue our trip to Udaipur, you'll read all about it tomorrow, namasté! 😉 After a good night's rest in my palace.. euh... hotelroom and having a royal breakfast... a la carte we hit the streets again to a very big palace (from a maharaja naturally), named Amber. This palace is located in the old city of Jaipur. The old city is also called "Pink City", because all the buildings have the pink color. The palace is on top of a mountain. The special thing about this palace (or so called "mahal") is that you have to go uphill to the entrance on the back of the elephant! This was a particular experience, for me it was even the first time ever. After sleeping a night like a Maharaja (prince) in a palace, we went to a national park. Here we spotted many different (species of) birds, but also monkeys, a wild boar and some antelope! Next we continued our way to Jaipur. Halfway there (it's about 4 hours driving) we had an excellent lunch at a restaurant. After the lunch we got back in the car, to drive to a very ancient Hindu temple. This temple is known for honoring the monkeys, they are holy animals (just like cows). At this temple we have seen and fed hundreds, maybe even thousands of monkeys (we also had a guide, he had shelled peanuts with him to feed the monkeys). So the monkeys sat on our shoulders and we have photos of that. This was really a fun experience, a bit different than watching monkeys in a zoo like Artis! Today (October 2) is Gandhi's dying day. This is a national day of mourning in India. So many public places are closed, this means a short program for today. This morning we left Agra, crossed the provincial border and arrived in Rajasthan. The road continues to Bharatpur. Here we went to a fortress, which looks amazing and is comparable to the Red Fortress in Agra. Next we had a delicious lunch at a restaurant underway. I've already discovered my favorite Indian dish: murg masala 😋. This is grilled chicked with a subtle, spicy flavor. On our way to this restaurant we also passed a bird sanctuary, we will be visiting this tomorrow morning. After the lunch we drove on to our next hotel, a former palace of a maharaja (prince). My room is directly next to the swimming pool. So I'm gonna splash in the water up next! 😉 For the rest of the day we don't have a program, that's why I already post this. Have a great afternoon in Holland and have a great weekend in advance! Tomorrow another update! 🙂 Today started off right with the news that our luggage had arrived! After a short night we had to get up early to catch the train to Agra. This was quite the experience. First of all you were handed out an extensive breakfast, just like in an airplane. Second of all the train drove passed shantytowns. This is where you see the poverty of the people in the purest form and where people do their needs along the train tracks (walking on the train tracks is normal to do here). After 2 hours of travelling with the train we arrived at Agra train station. Here we were awaited by our guide who took us to the car where we were reunited with our driver (his name is Major Singh by the way). From the station we drove to the hotel, which looked beautiful by the way. |
